A clear management structure has been planned to assist in the achievement of the MAGNet Center's objectives, including meeting the milestones and timelines for the scientific and software deliverables that are at the core of this proposal. The highly interdependent nature of the Center's activities will require substantial coordination and the ability to efficiently re-prioritize critical dependencies. Additional ongoing efforts will be necessary for making and keeping MAGNet an active member of the NCBC network, including significant community outreach, coordination with the NIH, and interaction with other NCBC Centers. In summary, the high-level goals of the Center's administration plan are:

  1. Implementing an efficient MAGNet Center management structure

. The Center will be directed by Professors Califano and Honig together with the Project Manager, Dr. Aris Floratos. Several committees will be established to support specific Center functions. While reporting to the directors, these will have operational power and technical expertise to supervise the progress and direction of individual projects and cross-core activities. Other key financial and administrative support personnel will be integrated into our management structure to ensure fiscal responsibility and good center operations.
  2. Integrating the MAGNet Center activities within individual Cores and across Cores

. Dr. Floratos, will coordinate all Center's activities relating to the timely delivery of scientific and technical milestones and deliverables and the creation of an appropriate coordination structure. He will coordinate and prioritize all issues related to software development and integration of the individual projects' tools in the MAGNet Center software platform, geWorkbench. This will involve both intra-center and community-related coordination activities. Inter-core coordination will be managed through specific sub-committees established for this purpose.
  3. Managing budget allocation and the cycle of Driving Biological Projects

. Over time, a number of adjustments and re-prioritizations will be required over the initial five-year funding period to support the Center core objectives. An appropriate budgeting mechanism, managed and revised in collaboration with the NIH-designated Science and Program Officers, will be implemented Important elements will include the termination of individual projects or the creation of new ones. Specific mechanism will be put in place to manage the DBP cycle.
  4. Facilitating interactions with the external user community

. Specific activities will be planned to support the main goal of the MAGNet Center, namely, the creation a new National resource that will facilitates the ability of a broad range of biomedical scientists to address new classes of biological questions and will attract computational scientists to contribute their expertise to projects focused on these goals.
